The United Nations' refugee agency has told the Federal Government it won't play any part in assessing the refugee claims of asylum seekers to be sent to Nauru or Manus Island. The UNHCR says it will monitor the policy from afar, but it won't have an active role in offshore processing, believing Australia should abide by its responsibility to protect asylum seekers.
