In ancient stories, the island of Timor is said to have been the body of a crocodile swimming through the waters of an ocean that existed before the sky and the earth parted. At the head of this crocodile, in the extreme east, is the Lautem district. There's a perception that the state gallery doesn't rate Aboriginal art made within its borders. We talk to some of the artists and the curator, Bruce McLean.
